Subject: An evening of storytelling

Saturday treat yourself to an evening of storytelling!

Bynum General Store
950 Bynum Road
Pittsboro, NC

6:30 – 9pm — refreshments will be served and the hat passed! The event is family friendly – “the stories most enjoyed by those 8 and above.”
Spinning stories Saturday night, March 12 are:

Barbara Lott – A professional storyteller and life-long North Carolinian, Barbara Lott specializes in African American and southern folklore, using both language and ethnically inspired dress to enhance her tales. She also tells true stories of goings-on Chatham County! She brings familiar themes to life with humor and skill. For over 30 years she entertained young and old alike at churches, schools, libraries, rest homes, correctional facilities, arts festivals and celebrations – as well as appearing on television and radio programs.

Ken Corsbie – Ken is from the Caribbean and has a humorous take on America. We do things differently here! Come hear a “old dog” explain with great humor how hard it is to figure out “new tricks! ” Ken was a TV personality, professional storyteller and stand-up comedian all over the Caribbean, in New York and New Jersey. (He has won many awards.) In NC he revels in being Elizabeth’s husband and finally living in a house with a white picket fence.

Louise Omoto Kessel – We are also very happy to welcome Louise Omoto Kessel – a Bynum storyteller and founder of the Haw River Festival. She’s told stories at the Smithsonian, in Alaska and on a sailboat sailing home from Russia! Her stories are from many cultures! Louise and her husband Holmes run the organic Clapping Hand Farm just west of Pittsboro. They have two teenagers – and her dad at home. And! She runs spring break and summer camps at Clapping Hands Farm for kids of all ages!

Jocelyn Marks – enjoys performing stand-up, sketch and Improv. She studied comedy at DSI Comedy Theater in Chapel Hill. She’s also studied with Emmy Award-winning writer John Boni, Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall, Saturday Night Live), Cameron Esposito (Chelsea Lately), Kevin Allison (MTV’s The State), Rachel Mason (Second City) and others. She is a proud member of the Bynum Comedy Writers Group. She can be seen doing comedy shows across the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area – NC Comedy Arts Festival, Carrboro Art Center, and frequently in her living room… for Jacie and Daphne… successfully keeping them from watching Frozen TWICE last week.Â

Cynthia Raxter – is a storyteller and stand-up comedian. Her stories are true and original. She grew up rambunctious on a dairy farm in the mountains of NC with five sisters and one fiendishly inventive brother. Now she lives in the artist community of Bynum in Chatham County, NC. She enjoys writing, cooking and strolling the banks of the Haw River! And telling stories — all the time!

Bynum General Store Storytelling is sponsored by BynumFrontPorch.org – a non-profit benevolent organization which manages the general store as a community center, runs a Friday night music series in the summer, and provides two $1000 scholarships to Chatham County seniors every year. 20% of the shows proceed go to Bynum Front Porch.
