Global Warming and Ice

Hello friends ,

For those who see ‘irony’ in an open-to-all Climate Change Committee meeting cancelled due to ice, I submit there IS irony only in the derider’s use of the words ‘warming’ and ‘ice’, and then, only in the most basic sense.

Climate Change involves increased water in the environment (melting poles)leading to bigger storms and more extreme ‘weather events’. Super storms for some, increased drought for others, and extreme temperature swings. Ask Australians, who have now accepted that their formerly periodic drought conditions are the new normal.

However you define what is going on, it involves the shifting of ocean and wind currents that control the very patterns we were taught about in school and came to rely upon.

It may or may not be hotter, at any given time, but the weather has become a much wilder wild card. Any farmer can tell you that’s true.

WHATEVER the reason may be, the Committee is not there to decide, but to brainstorm on day-to-day coping ideas as well as joining to make smart longterm plans for economic viability.

It’s ALREADY affecting livelihoods across this country. Find out what people close to you are facing.

Make constructive suggestions. There is potential in a respectful conversation on balancing your valid concerns about the financal impacts of mitigating behaviors with the financial impacts of ignoring what is going on. No doors open and that conversation does not take place if mocking is seen as the smartest option. If you don’t want to lead, at least explore
the local situation….or get out of the way.

Respectfully,
Claire Kane
