Hey Jodi,

Yes, there are green burials in Chatham County. Piedmont Pine Coffins operating out of Siler City specialize in providing exactly what you seek and Pine Forest Memorial Park in Wake Forest accommodates green burials.

I’m not sure how you get a permit for burial on your own land, but I’m sure Don and Nicole at Pine Coffins know the answer.

Speaking of which, what a great idea! I want to be buried in a pine coffin on my land, too! As I learn more, I’ll share with the Chatlist.

Subject: Green Burial?

I am trying to locate a place in Chatham County, or somewhere in NC if
there is no such thing in Chatham, where one can have a green burial.
I am talking about a natural burial (no embalming fluid, no cement
casket around the coffin). Also, can one legally be buried in ones own
land in this county, and if so, what are the restrictions, does this
apply to land owned in the city, or just farmland? I have been looking
for some place in NC that allows natural burial, but haven’t found
any.

Thanks.
