Chatham County Cooperative Extension runs a popular Junior Chefs Cooking Camp every summer where kids ages 8-12 spend a week learning to prepare and cook food. There are four one-week sessions led by Family & Consumer Science Agent Phyllis Smith. In 2014 Agriculture Agent Debbie Roos teamed up with Phyllis to provide an on-farm experience for the Junior Chefs to improve their knowledge and awareness of local food production. Each week Debbie took the kids to a different farm where they would meet the farmer and learn about crop and livestock production. At the end the kids would purchase vegetables, herbs, beef, chicken, eggs, and dairy to cook with during the week!

We visited the following farms: Perry-winkle Farm, Granite Springs Farm, Lilly Den Farm, and Celebrity Dairy.
