JUDY HOGAN WRITING AND EDITING SERVICES AND CHICKEN WORKSHOPS
I have been working with creative writers since 1974 in central N.C. I help edit their manuscripts, give advice about getting published, and I also teach writing classes that combine writing with reading good books. I love to write, and that’s my first vocation, but I also love to teach, and that’s my second vocation.

I am open now, on a first come, first served basis, for editing manuscripts, creative writing of all kinds, and I’ve even edited articles for medical journals and grant applications, at $2.50/page, minimum of $40, payable in advance. I like to work on hard copies. The advice comes after I’ve read the manuscript by mail, email, or in person, if you live close enough.
In January, I’ll be teaching POETIC PROSE/PROSE POETRY, a 10-week poetry/fiction course Mondays, 7-9 PM, January 12-March 16, 2015, at the Biofuels Kitchen in Pittsboro. Participation by Skype is also possible with this course if students prefer to study from home. We will read Marcel Proust’s “Combray” section of his first volume of In Search of Lost Time, which is found in Vol. I, Swann’s Way and Virginia Woolf’s poetic novel, The Waves. Both poets and fiction writers at any stage are welcome. Students may work on independent projects, or use Hogan’s assignments related to the reading. These readings will be especially helpful for writers to use more and better imagery whether in their poetry or fiction. The course will cost $150 to those attending in Pittsboro, and $180 to those who wish for Judy’s notes and/or their writings to be mailed.

Judy has published six volumes of poetry and two mystery novels. She has taught both Proust and Woolf many times and found that they improve students’ writing immensely.
To enroll, send $20 to Judy Hogan, PO Box 253, Moncure, NC 27559-0253

The cost is payable at the first class, though payment plans may be worked out.

I will also teach a non-fiction writing course in Sanford for Con Ed CCCC, Write Your Life Story Thursdays, 1-3 PM, January 8-March 12, 2015. It’s only $59 for 10 weeks. For more info: Judy Hogan, 919-545-9932. judyhogan at mindspring dot com

April 11, Saturday, 9-3 PM I’m offering a Backyard Chicken Schemes workshop, beginning at Con Ed in Sanford, and continuing at my Hoganvillaea Farm in Moncure. Only $29. Learn the basics for raising healthy, happy chickens. I’ve been doing this for 11 years now and teaching this for four. Chickens can be lovely companions, but they can also drive you crazy. Learn to keep them on your side, safe from predators, laying healthy eggs, and providing some laughs.

On May 16, Saturday, 9-4 PM. I will have here at my Hoganvillaea Farm a Lifestyle workshop for writers and artists, which might be also called a Voluntary Simplicity workshop. We do exercises on time management, budgeting, getting your work done, brainstorming on various problems, setting goals, etc. $50 for the day, with a healthy pot-luck contribution.

This River: An Epic Love Poem, my newest, sixth poetry book is out December 1 from www.Wildembers.com in Oregon in their Watersongs imprint. It will sell for $14 in local bookstores, including The Joyful Jewel. You can also order it from me for $15 (with tax) to pick up or $18 to be mailed. I think it’s my best poetry book yet, focused a lot on the Haw River, and, of course, on a love story with a Russian man I met during Sister Cities exchanges in the early 90s.

Thanks, Gene, for offering us this service. Judy Hogan 919-545-9932.
