Subject: Explanation for rig on Jordan Lake

At least two subscribers have asked on the Chatlist about the rig on Jordan Lake just to the north of U.S. 64 as you pass over the lake on the bridge. I contacted the Water Resources Dept. of the Town of Cary to get the explanation.

The rig is a dredger that will be used to access the drinking water intake shared by the Town of Cary and the North Chatham Water Utility. The intake screens and mechanical pumping equipment are being upgraded as part of a general plan for increasing the daily withdrawal rate of water as allowed based on allocation permit.

Alexandra Jones of the Water Resource Dept. would be happy to answer further questions.
