*Strobilus Music Series Presents Two Performances in November*

Chapel in the Pines welcomes Willard McKiver, singing *Extraordinary Music for Great Souls, *and the Women’s Voices Chorus, singing *Awakenings: Songs of New Births & Origins*

The third performance in the fall season of the Strobilus Music Series will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8 at Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church. Willard McKiver will sing *Extraordinary Music for Great Souls,* an eclectic program of jazz, blues, and gospel. Martin Eagle will accompany on piano.

Following that, the fourth performance of the fall season will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22. The Women’s Voices Chorus will sing *Awakenings: Songs of New Births & Origins,* featuring music from the Renaissance through contemporary composers. Artistic Director Allan Friedman conducts.

Raised in a church family, Willard McKiver counts a variety of musical influences including Oscar Brown, Jr.; Sarah Vaughan; and Bill Withers. McKiver sums up *Extraordinary Music for Great Souls* by saying, “The truest picture of the journey of a people is found in the music that lives on after them. This program draws from a spectrum of genres, digging deep into the origins of modern popular music.

Women’s Voices Chorus, the Triangle’s only community-based classical chorus for sopranos and altos, has established itself as an accomplished interpreter of classical music for and by women, ranging from medieval polyphony to contemporary works. *Awakenings: Songs of New Births & Origins* mixes sacred and secular works including selections from Britten, Victoria, and modern female composers.

All Strobilus performances are open to the public and free with a suggested donation. Free childcare will be provided. More information about these performances and the rest of the Strobilus fall season can be found at the series website, www.strobilusmusic.tumblr.com

Located at 314 Great Ridge Parkway in southern Chapel Hill, The Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church welcomes everyone, and the facility is fully ADA accessible.
