Subject: Where the candidates stand on Fracking

Several posts recently imply that the democratic candidates and the our incumbent commissioners have opposing views on Fracking.

Virginia Penley wrote: “Howard, Hales and Crawford oppose fracking and will fight for our county, while the GOP has clearly pursued the agenda of forcing this industry upon Chatham and Lee county”.

A quick review of the minutes and the county website shows that the our commissioners have taken a pretty strong stance against Fracking in Chatham County. You can view for yourself at this link http://www.chathamnc.org/modules/showdocument.aspx?documentid=23677

We can learn more by looking at the candidate’s websites. Bock, Petty, Stewart have posted this on their website:

http://commissionerbock.com/initiatives/the-environment/62-protecting-our-natural-resources

*”We are working with our State Representatives in Raleigh to retain and regain local control of our environmental regulations. Chatham knows better than Raleigh how to protect our citizens”.*

*”Fought against “fracking” legislation in order to retain our right to govern and protect our county as the NC constitution says we must”. *

“*. . . we have worked countless hours with our state representative to stop or slow down the process. We are committed to protecting our water, our property rights, and our ability to allow Chatham citizens to determine our future. We are researching ways that might legally allow us to combat this issue.”*

Based on the actions and votes of our commissioners how can the democrats truthfully say that our commissioners are pursuing the agenda of forcing fracking on Chatham County?
