Taking the Fire Out of Fire Ants

“Taking the Fire Out of Fire Ants” is a free program offered by Chatham County Cooperative Extension on Thursday, September 4, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Chatham Extension center in Pittsboro. Taught by Extension horticulture agent, Charlotte Glen, and Chatham County Extension Director, Sam Groce, the program will cover effective strategies for managing fire ants in lawns, parks, plant nurseries, farmland and pastures. Neither Glen nor Groce promise that fire ants can be eliminated. Their presentation will focus on understanding life within a fire ant mound and using the ants’ habits to our advantage. Several fire ant control products will be discussed, including those with organic active ingredients.
