The mare is back

Subject: My mare is back! !

She was initially gone for days, then she’d return more often and I’d feed her generously, scrub her wounds, brush where she’d slept. Next step was coming home for food – again, delighted to see her, scrubbed the wounds, hosed the swelling, brushed her. She was put in her paddock – she’d blow through as soon as she’d finished the hay.

Then, the serious fence fixing began. She’d been in that paddock for years and now she’s very twitchy. The fence was fixed daily, better, stronger, with streamers so she could see the hot part. After too many days of that, she has stayed in her paddock for 3 days in a row, now. And I have finally slept a full night. Think pure thoughts for her, to relax. Boy, I hope I didn’t just jinx it.

I’d like to thank all the individuals who gave me good ideas and inspiration. Finally, I’d like to thank all my neighbors. Their beautiful green lawns now have hoof prints in them. They never complained but called me when they saw her. Thank you so very much. You guys are the best!!

People with prey animals note: the predators didn’t get this one.
