Dear Tom West,

You make the claim that just because Karen Howard does not live in a poor community means that she doesn’t care about poor people.  That is so lame.  There’s an old saying: “If you want to help someone with a broken leg, you do not break your own leg to do it.”  Look at some million/billon-aires who help others:  Ted Turner, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton.

You need to look at a person’s intentions and heart, to determine whether they care about poor people.  And when you’re not close enough to them to know that, or are not intuitive enough to know that, then you need to look at their activism record.  Do Karen’s past actions fit the publicized democratic values of helping poor people and the environment? If she has done that, then you know where her heart is.  Actions speak louder than words.
