Subject: For neighbors, shooting range issue is not guns or cats, it is NOISE

To Tom Carter and others who are trying to turn the issue of the new shooting range into an anti-gun or anti-Cat Refuge affair, I would like to point out that the issue for neighbors of the facility is not guns or cats, it is NOISE. My family is one of the many within half a mile of the range who have been disturbed by the noise. The prospect that the range will be open 7 days a week and that it is hoping to triple its size and include a military range make us all wonder what is ahead. Many of us are gun owners and gun enthusiasts, but that does not make us supporters of this range.

We realize that our part of Chatham County is unzoned which is a blessing and a curse, but there is a general respect for one’s neighbors. That respect has included, up until now, not making too much noise. The noise issue from this range affects several neighborhoods. It touches a very diverse population – from young families to elderly shut-ins. Many residents  have lived here all their lives and others of us have invested our hearts and energy into the lives we have built here. We are not happy that a business has moved in to ruin what we have created and I am sure that the majority of Chatham County residents would agree with our point of view.

  1. I would have to agree. Loud noise is environmentally unfriendly and is a real danger to health and hearing. Whether inside or out, being subjected to almost constant barrage of gunfire would be very disturbing and unhealthy.

    I think the EPA should be consulted.
