Dear Brian Bock, Congratulations to you personally for such a well written post to the Chatlist, and to you and all the county commissioners for a budget paying for the most important matters, education, sewage, health dept. police, et al and keeping the tax rate from worsening for property owners. That, in itself, will attract new people, money, talent and business to the county, assuming this is desireable/inevitable! You have a difficult and complex and demanding task, and you do it well.

Maybe soon we will have a AAA bond rating, new revenue from Chatham Park and the megasite, and the option to do more of the desired projects and ‘fun’ things. Meanwhile we have a vibrant private sector that is active from Rotary to The Abundance Foundation, Ruritan to the Literacy Council, Arts Council, Friends of the Library, CORA, Lystra Church free clothes, Habitat for Humanity, PTA Thrift Stores, and so many others. Leaving money available for these activities instead of taxing it away to the county coffers is not a bad idea. Our hustling private enterprise, from The City Tap to Chaudry Halal Meats, retired folks to beef producers, is the engine that supports all our ‘public’ efforts. Working in concert, we make a ‘better’ place to live for all of us. That is how honest people earn a living.
