Fellow Chatham residents,

Unserved and underserved area of Chatham County are in position to benefit from funding being offered through Connect America to deploy robust broadband through broadband experiments.

On searching the comment section for proceeding number 10-90, I found 2 well-written ‘Letters of Interest’ that are directed specifically at service for Chatham County, NC.

1.  Chatham Wireless (for fixed wireless)

view on-line at:

2.  Randolph Telephone Cooperative (for fiber to the home service, primarily the Bonlee and Goldston exchange)

Both of these services could be a great boost to the broadband services in the rural portions of our county.

Public comments can be made  on the broadband experiments at the FCC website by following these instructions:

1. Go to: http://www.fcc.gov/consumers

2. Select the Take Action tab at top of page

3. Select Comment

4. Scroll down to 10-90 ( this is for the broadband experiments)

After selecting 10-90 follow instructions and leave a brief public comment..

I appeal especially to those of you with internet service to think of those without service options and make thoughtful comments on their behalf. Also, if the broadband you have now is not meeting your needs, let the FCC know..  We have students in this county who still cannot get reliable broadband service in their homes.  Many work from home or hybrid work situations are not workable here.  Everyone who pays a phone bill pays into the Universal Service Fund which funds these projects.  It really would be great if some of these funds could come back home and provide service here.

Please take time to place your comments and mention Chatham County, NC.

Thanks,

Marian Norton
