Meet Ruth Moose as she reads and discusses her new novel Doing it at the Dixie Dew, winner of the Malice Domestic Mystery Novel contest, published by St. Martin’s Press.

Beth McKenzie¹s wealthy first guest at her Bed and Breakfast, The Dixie Dew, arrives in a pricey sports car and leaves in a hearse. Beth has to find the real killer when the clueless two-man police force in her small Southern town name her prime suspect in the murder.

Moose reworked the novel she wrote 25 years ago when she began to meet with other mystery writers in the Chatham area a few years ago, submitted it to the contest, and won. In the “cozy” mystery genre an ordinary citizen investigates crimes, often with help and hindrance from friends and neighbors (and sometimes pet rabbits).

“As deliciously Southern as pecan pieŠ a dazzling and delightful debut mystery,” writes best-selling mystery novelist Carolyn Hart. “I loved it! So much fun to read,” says Lee Smith of Hillsborough, author of The Last Girls, a New York Times bestseller.

NC native Moose taught Creative Writing at UNC-Chapel Hill for 15 years, and prior to that she was a librarian at Pfeiffer College. She occasionally teaches classes and workshops at CCCC in the Creative Writing Program. She lives in Pittsboro. Books will be available for sale at the event.
