Feed information to Google in hope of getting Chatham County high speed fiber service

Subject: Google Fiber and Chatham

Google Fiber has just announced that is has 34 cities/locals on deck  for installation of Google Fiber Service.

Raleigh/Durham/ChapelHill/Carborro  is under consideration and google  has asked the locals to contribute data such as accurate maps with existing infrastructure such as power/gas/water lines, full reviews of permitting they would need to advance their plans, along with maps with current/proposed development and local geographic features.

I have asked Chatham County for infrastructure maps but have yet to get  any answer – I am hoping to look at where current telco infrastructure lies in an attempt to get the telco’s to expand their current service  areas.

I think this is the best play to get Chatham County better IT infrastructure and adequate levels of connectivity – one goal I think we all can agree on and more than one person has expressed interest in.

I hope that all of those who are involved with the mega development that is aka Chatham Park – will also feed information to Google in the hopes of getting Chatham County and the larger RDU area to be one of their next market areas – I am more than sure anyone interested in business or personal endeavors within the future Chatham Park will demand high speed access and we all know that high speed access is key to economic and personal growth.

  1. I live above Haw off of Jones Ferry in Pittsboro and there is simply nothing out there regarding technology and infrastructure. I inquired about getting broadband from TWC. Finally after numerous calls and emails, I received a message that it would cost $105K of which they would pay $3K. There was a long (no pun intended) list of cabling and aerial required. Then she left no return call. I’m new to this area and I get the impression we’re left to fend for ourselves out here. I’d like to see some tax dollars go to updating this area.
