We have lots going on over at the Arts Council in the coming weeks. Please sign up, join us and tell your friends!

The ArtsCenter, ChathamArts, and Chatham County Library have partnered to participate in the NEH/Tribeca Film Institute/ALA Americas Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music program. TONIGHT – please stop by the Chatham Community Library for the final screening in the series. Tonight’s theme is ‘Latin Rhythm From Mambo to Hip Hop’, with excerpts from two films: ‘Latin Music USA, Episode 1: Bridges -From Mambo to Hip-Hop’ and ‘A South Bronx Tale’. We’ll be joined for a post-screening discussion with David F. Garcia, Ph..D., Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies with the Department of Music at UNC Chapel Hill, alongside Art Menius, Executive Director at the ArtsCenter. The program will start at 7:15 and runs for about 90 minutes.

We are also gearing up for ClydeFEST 2013, at the Bynum Ballfield on Saturday, April 6th from 11-4 (rain date Sunday, April 7th from 1-5). This annual kids’ carnival celebrates all things folk-art and fun, with games, music, art, food, prizes, a critter auction and much more – and of course wouldn’t be complete without a live critter carving by Clyde Jones himself. This seriously is the BEST kids’ fest in the area – where else do giant African tortoises get to hang out alongside Senegalese drummers? Check out pictures are more from last year’s event at www.chathamarts.org and sign up to our Facebook page to join in on the upcoming “Clyde’s Crazy Critter Caper” – with prizes! We are also in need of LOTS of volunteers to help staff the event too: contact or go to www.chathamarts.org for details.

If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at improv comedy, now’s your chance! Join Anoo Brod as she guides beginners and veterans alike through this crazy comedic form. Classes run three or six weeks at the Briar Chapel clubhouse, starting March 14th at 7pm. If you need some laughter to liven up the winter, you won’t be disappointed!

Head over to www.chathamarts.org for details on all of these events and more, and sign up for our e-newsletter for arts updates each month. Your support help us keep the Chatham County arts scene alive and well – we thank you!
