Subject: Support Group

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is an umbrella term that describes the range of effects that can occur in an individual exposed to alcohol in utero and includes physical, behavioral, and learning problems. Such exposure is the leading preventable cause of developmental and intellectual disabilities. Those affected are seen as having willful behavior when the reality is that they can’t act differently because of an invisible physical disability. Through intervention which includes “trying differently, not harder” you can assist the individual with a FASD to build on strengths to increase success in various settings, while reducing your own stress as a caregiver or teacher.

For information about our monthly support group or about FASD, please contact me at the number or email below.  Our group has been in existence for 3 years..it is helpful to get together with others who suspect or know that their child has a FASD to discuss how to handle situations that occur daily and to plan for the future when we (parents and caregivers) are no longer around.

Our next meeting is February 19th.
