In NC coyotes are considered a Non Game animal. This means it is ALWAYS open season. There is little hunting/trapping pressure as the value of fur is low, and they aren’t good to eat. Dog owners need to be careful when coyote packs are in the area. One of their favorite tricks is for one coyote to get a dog to chase it, leading it past the concealed pack, and….uhmm. Well, you get the idea.

If you find a den with pups, call the Game Warden.

The only effective control method I’ve seen is calling in a “Coyote Hunting Club” with well trained hunters and dogs. Of course, this would mean cooperation amongst the neighbors…..

In reality, they’d be dispatching a few, and pushing the others out of the area to become someone else’s problem..
