WoodsRock III Music Festival – A Benefit for Transportation
WoodsRock Music Festival is the annual fundraising event to support the transportation program at Woods.
Charter Schools receive no State or Federal support for their transportation programs. Thus, Woods Charter School is required to purchase its own school buses, title, license, and insure them, and pay for all necessary repairs, etc. out of its general operating budget, which impacts the availability of funds to support other programs.
In 2009, Ann Kaiyala shared a dream and creative solution of having a music festival to raise money for transportation. Those she shared her dream with said, “Let’s go for it!” As a result of Ann’s dream, the Woods Charter School Foundation sponsors the annual WoodsRock Music Festival at a well-known local outdoor venue–Shakori Hills.
The participants who plan and work at the festival are volunteers, including the bands that perform. WoodsRock is truly a community-wide effort to raise enough money to ensure that any student who needs it has school transportation available to them. Woods operates three bus routes toaccommodate the transportation needs of its families who are from Chatham and seven surrounding counties. During the 2010-11 school year, Woods provided students with more than 25,000 rides to and from school. Our buses also transported Woods students on 80 field trips, which greatly enhanced and enriched their classroom learning. WoodsRock brings both the Woods Charter family and outside community members together for a family-friendly day of celebration and music while providing much-needed funding for a basic need: transportation.

Student and up and coming bands include GirlsRock NC, Matt Vooris Camp Bands, WCS Faculty Band, Cube, and Morgan’s End.
Local bands include: Stratocruiser, Tim Smith Band, Great Big Gone, Saludos Company, KillerFiller, Velvet, Delta Rae.
This is a great event to kick back and relax with new friends and old, and fun for the entire family! Bring the whole family… your neighbors…. your therapist…. your chiropractor…. even your monkey’s uncle!! But please, Shakori Hills prefers that you leave your 4-legged friends at home!
