Wow! Precisely the opposite of my experiences.  I’ve purchased appliances at both Sears and Lowe’s.  I found both to be excellent – purchase to installation thru repairs if required.

Your repair experience was far different than mine – but I believe Sears has out sourced their repair services and i believe Lowe’s uses subcontractors for service / installation.  So, the kind and quality of the repair can vary.  Without fail, if I get great service I call and tell management so; likewise if I get bad service or have a less than professional interaction I also call – and usually follow up with either snail mail or email to the local management and several levels up the “food chain”.

The installer for your dryer sounds as if they were under the influence of something – you’d have to work really hard to install a dryer door backwards.

Unfortunately these days all these places out source many functions and the quality of service varies tremendously depending on the subcontracting entity and the individ who arrives.  The AAA discussion is another “proof” of this.
