Basic Dog Obedience Classes Spring Semester at Central Carolina Community College, Pittsboro Campus

This is a Beginner Obedience/Home Management class for dogs over 6 months old. In this class students will learn how to train their dogs to be better pets using positive, reward based teaching methods. In this way, students and their dogs will develop a special bond and trusting relationship All exercises will be done on-leash and will include walking on a loose leash, sit, down, stand, stay, and come-when-called. Students will learn how to handle the leash, give commands and praise, and use food as a reward. Basic manners such as controlling jumping and barking as well as other home management issues will be addressed. By graduation, students will have gained basic control of their dogs and have the right tools to continue training at home. This class will be especially helpful for new owners of rescue or shelter dogs.

Attendance at the first class on 2/28/11 is required to go forward. No dogs at this meeting.

  1. Ms. Sullivan,

We have a rescue puppy this is 4.5 months old…will you make an exception for the age limit so we can enroll in this class? If not, when will the next class be held? Thank you.

  2. Hi, I would love to know if there will be a summer or fall 2013 dog training class? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Can you tell me where in Chatham County I can find beginner puppy classes for dogs starting at 12weeks old? I do not wish to wait until he is 6mo old with issues to start training. He will learn some beginner things at home but I want the class distraction and socialization add to it. Thanks!
