Chatlisters,

It has come to my attention that there is another Sarah Carr who also lives in this community.  I am not the Sarah Carr, bookseller, wife of Steve, etc.  I am a family law attorney in solo practice here in Orange/Chatham County. I live in Pittsboro and grew up in Hillsborough.  My last name, Carr, is my maiden name.

As such, my post about Habitat reflected my own opinions and should not be attributed to the other Sarah Carr.

Sarah,

I say well done to Mr. Williams for speaking up.  I don’t recall anyspecifications in his posting about “brown  skin”.   This one simple statement is all that matters…”illegal alien”.   Self explanatory.illegal. It doesn’t matter what nationality, color of skin, hair or eyes.  Illegal is illegal. They do NOT contribute in a good way to this community or country.

I’m quite sure the reference to Hispanic was simply because they do comprise the majority of illegal aliens in the country at this time and in this community.

Chatham County is a place.  A place where you can live.  It can be a place where you were born, but it doesn’t have to be.  It can be a place to raise a family , make a living, or retire.  It can also be a place where you can own a house or a piece of property. For all of these reasons, it can be a place to cherish, a place to call home.

Trifoliate orange is an invasive plant in Chatham County

I concur with Al and Sam that trifoliate orange is an invasive plant in Chatham County.  This species (Poncirus trifoliata, aka Citrus trifoliata) has invaded floodplains along Robeson Creek in Pittsboro (where it forms dense thickets), and I’ve seen it also in floodplains along Harlands Creek.  Because the fruits are “heavy” (and have lots of seeds), they usually drop to the ground below the parent plant where they produce many seedlings.  But when water is available to carry the fruits (as in a floodplain), they are capable of spreading downstream and invading new ground.
