Subject: FYI: re:four adorable kittens
Just an FYI to folks or finders of stray animals that one plans to keep around and not take to the shelters. I truly believe that most people want to do the right thing but may not even know what programs are available to help with spaying/ neutering them so here is a list. If anyone knows of any other local programs please pass the information along.
For $20 you can purchase a voucher at the Chatham County Animal Shelter that includes the spay/ neuter and rabies vaccine.

Residents interested in the rebuilding of the Historic County Courthouse can provide broad feedback ideas on what functions the courthouse might include when it is rebuilt during input at an upcoming community forum on Tues. 6/29, from 6:30-8:30 pm at Northwood High School in the cafeteria. The school is located in Pittsboro on US 15-501, just north of the US 64 bypass.
Residents may also complete a brief survey to provide input.

Subject: Vive la Chatlist!
Ah, the Chatham Chatlist. It’s often an enigma both to those who give it but a passing glance, or those who hang on its every word. A source of information exchange it is, but, oh, so much more. Poking around the Chatlist is somewhat akin to that blindfolded fella feeling around an elephant. It leaves plenty of room for interpreting what it is that you are feeling at any given time (from adoration to abomination and everything in between).

Subject: RE: Flea problems…Did you know?
Regarding the impotence of Frontline and other spot treatments – my vet has told me they’ve long since started seeing ‘breaks’ in the spot treatments (parasites are becoming tolerant of the chemical) and switched my dog to Comfortis. It’s a prescription treatment, but an appointment wasn’t necessary – we just stopped by the vet and picked some up. Within an hour of giving my dog the medication, fleas were falling off him, dead. I bathed him a day later and they were all gone. It works on fleas and ticks. Single dose lasts a month.

Subject: Re: Deborah Bair re: Sarah Shook
Deborah, I’ve noticed that pounding people repeatedly for pretty much any perceived infraction, however minor it happens to be, is a common trend on any Internet forum, and there’s only one solution: if you don’t like it, ignore it. These people are known as “trolls” and to reply in any way is to “feed the trolls.” Any reply, good or bad, is an invitation for further heated commentary. Get two or more opposing trolls and you have a “flame war.” Judging by Sarah Shook’s reply directly beneath your own, a flame war is precisely where this thing is headed, and if we don’t give these posts the dignity of a response, they eventually won’t have anything else to troll or flame about.

Vini: (and all)
We have bird dogs, and also have a problem every year with what works..After a lot of trail and error, we now alternate each year between Frontline and Advantix..this year the advantix seems to be doing the trick…the frontline had almost no effect at all.
Nothing scientific we did, just trial and error..but you may want to ask your vet about this..Our neighbor finds only Frontline works for his dog, so go figure! I’ve tried adding garlic to their food, etc, but after watching them suffer, we went back to commercial alternatives.

Subject: The Firing of Howard Alston
The Firing of Howard Alston came as no surprise to me, or probably anyone else that was aware of his treatment from Habitat. Seems he was employed there for 6 or more years, was a favorite with customers, did his job and more. To be relegated to an obscure back room, sorting thru mounds of donated household goods was a dreadful demotion and almost an insult. It almost seems someone wanted him out of their way or wanted him to be less visible. But wait- it can’t be- we are talking about Habitat For Humanity- the do- gooders of Pittsboro? Again I say, Habitat- the Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove.

Subject: What I love about this chatlist….
We were having problems with our home air condition unit and did not want to call the same repair person we had previously called…we were over charged and not happy with his lack of knowledge.
So this time we asked around and low and behold we found Wayne Burke…he was AMAZING…came out twice filled unit with 2#free on and checked for leaks and it was half the price I expected!!!!!…it was amazingly reasonable and such a great and professional fella…
