First year of the graduation project

I would be interested to hear others’ experiences (as parents, students, mentors, judges) with the first year of the graduation project. I mentored a student last fall, and just got back from judging the presentations at J-M. The students (both my mentee and the 4 students I judged) were engaged and did a good job. I am still concerned about the
effect of the project on graduation rates (have to wait a few more months to see the numbers), but overall I think it is worthwhile.

Produce at a reasonable price

Went by farmers market at the brewery Saturday to check it out. Not much to offer but high prices. English peas at $4.00 a pound. Heard the Pittsboro market offered lettuce in a ziploc bag at $5.00 each.

Hey everybody go on out to the Busy Bee Farm and you can pick your produce fresh from the plants. Sugar snap peas at $1.50 lb, Brocolli at $2.25 a head, cauliflower at $2.00 head, and squash(just coming in) at $1.50 lb. Lettuce is $2.50 head. Two types still available. China cabbage at $2.50 head.

Pittsboro Community Blood Drive

The Pittsboro Community Blood Drive will be held on Tuesday, May 25th from 11:30-3:30 in the parking lot of Carolina Brewery, across from Lowe’s Home Improvement.  Registration is in the lobby of New Branch Chiropractic.

Participants will each get a small gift bag for donating and will be registered to win a Cruise for Two!

Appointments are needed, but we will accept walk-ins that day as time permits.  Call 642-0555 today to schedule your donation!

The Chatham County Public Health Department will host a FREE! parent workshop called “Can We Talk” on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 9:00am-2:00pm. This workshop is designed to help parents enhance their role in their children’s sexuality and health education and to encourage parents to talk openly and as often as possible.

We’re cookin’ outdoors this week! Everyone invited to join us on Thursday for our Spring Picnic. We’ll do dogs and chicken on the grill , greens from the farms, (thanks Piedmont Biofarm and Duck Run!!) yummy homemade sides, and of course our famous dessert bar!

The Community Lunch is open to all in the community. Every Thursday, 12-1 PM at St. Bartholomew’s Church in downtown Pittsboro, just a block north of the library. Donations are welcome, but not necessary.
