Happy New Year Everyone!
As many of you know, my dad passed away three days after Christmas.
Fortunately we were up in NY for my niece’s wedding and I was able to be with him during his last moments. It really is a relief to know that he has shed his heavy, cumbersome, earthly body and his soul is now free to roam the heavens and watch over us all. Many of you had an opportunity to dance with him while he was staying with me last summer for about 5 weeks and I thank you all for making his stay here fun. He did win a jitterbug contest when he was in his early 20′s and he was singing and trying to dance right up to the end.

Subject: Archie closing shop
It is indeed sad to hear that Archie is closing his store on Hillsboro St. There are no others like him.
Service with a smile and most of the time a good laugh- He madel our problem seem simple once we had explained what was wrong.
I first met Archie I think, in 1973 or 74, he did not yet have his appliance store. He was working behind the counter of an auto supply firm located in the building now occupied by J. Henry Paint.

December 20th, the owner of a downtown Pittsboro business posted on the Chatlist: “Beggars and Choosers is closing after Christmas.” “The store was robbed the day of the street fair. We were hit hard and it has taken the joy out of working and I need to take a break to get my groove back.” The same day, I heard a rumor that Chatham Marketplace had been robbed.

Subject: Whiners and winners: Recession brings Chatham golden choices
A recent article in The Independent about thousands of acres of failed, stagnant or bankrupt development obscures several golden opportunities by the writer’s choice to whine about the past rather than think about the future.
The Independent writer quotes Chatham County Commissioner Sally Kost, “who worked for more than 20 years as a government budget professional” as saying, “Chatham County is not in this subdivision business. Eventually, someone will buy them. I know there are many Chatham citizens that wish we would buy Westfall but our real dilemma is that of ensuring the county’s infrastructure keeps up with its growth.”

Marge–
The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library collect books all year for two annual book sales. All funds raised at the events support the library (in this case, the soon-to-be NEW library) and the very successful event also gets books recycled back into the community at bargain prices. Any leftover books are donated to other community charities.
You can take the books to the Pittsboro library anytime it is open and the librarians will give you a tax receipt for your donation. The next sale is March 25-27.
