Traffic circle is a problem because no one uses their turn signals

From: Trace and Patricia Swayze
Subject: Round about

The round about like the one at the Pittsboro courthouse is a problem because no one uses their turn signals. I am from East Texas and we had the same problems until it was mandatory to use turn signals, which only makes good sense, to allow the other drivers to know where you are turning and when they can enter the circle. We use our turn signals when ever we approach and turn out of the circle giving someone else the opportunity to pull into the circle knowing in advance which direction we are turning. Try it and see if that helps solve the circle crisis.

Sitting at stoplights is lousy traffic flow

Joy Hewett says, ” roundabouts create really lousy traffic flows.”

This can’t be farther from the truth.
They are the most efficient means possible for handling intersecting and merging traffic flow.
Setting at stoplights is lousy traffic flow.
I fail to understand why some people seem threatened by circle traffic.
All it takes is knowledge of rules of driving….and hopefully eyes.

I applaud efforts to make traffic flow more efficient in Pittsboro.
Raleigh is doing likewise in several congested areas near State campus, and those already
in use are wonderfully useful.

My favorite thrift and discount shopping

Subject: Thrift and discount shopping (my favorite sport)

I am responding to Lawrence’s question regarding thrift shops/discount shopping in the area.  I recommend the Habitat for Humanity shops (on hwy 64, just west of the Pittsboro Circle), and the PTA thrift shop (just east of the circle next to Piggly Wiggly).  It is best to frequent these shops, as inventory changes quickly and your needed item might take a few visits to locate.  In the process, you’ll find some wonderful treasures you didn’t know you needed! It is a “green” shoppers delight… someone else’s “throw-aways” stay out of the garbage/landfill, and may very well be your treasure or just the item you have been looking for.
There is also a new Habitat for Humanity store between Chapel Hill and Durham, on 15/501 and just North of I-40.

The problem with roundabouts here in the US

From: mary51802
Subject: The problem with roundabouts here in the US

The problem with roundabouts here in the US is that they are not used properly. Every corner is to keep flowing slowly to blend traffic so it is a continuous flow. You are not supposed to stop 100%. People here us them like four way stops and that creates a problem. Check out some European traffic cams and see how roundabouts and traffic circles have been used for years.
Good luck.

Taking positive action

Subject: taking positive action

Anyone, a-n-y-o-n-e, who has dreams and ideas that cannot be achieved in the short term, but still takes action is vulnerable to the “delusions of grandeur” accusation. Yet, where would we be without big picture thinkers? Our forebears dreamt big. The tendency to think and conceptualize on a broader scale is a human characteristic, just like being detail-oriented, or having a sense of humor, or an aptitude for math or writing.

In response to Cole Park Plaza

From: jgmvhm
Subject: In response to Cole Park Plaza

It is really upsetting when people take it upon themselves to bash something, they no nothing about.? My family built Cole Park Plaza back in the 80′s. The land it was built upon was owned by the Cole family, part of my family heritage.

That is where it got it’s name. When the shopping center was opened, my parents leased the shops to many different vendors, some of which are still there. It was then turned over to a large management company that charged such rates, many people could not stay.
