*Summer Arts Camp; Also new Arts Classes for the Grown-ups too*
*General Information About Our Summer Programs:*
Join us this summer as ChathamArts kicks off their first series of summer
camps and classes.  This summer we are working with Briar Chapel to offer
several art camps for your child, giving him/her an opportunity to
experience music, painting and drama.  We will also be teaching an adult
drawing class.

All classes are held at the Community Center in Briar Chapel, located just
off 15-501 South. Visit www.chathamarts.org for details on this and our

*Kids Summer Camp*

Kids Camp 1:

*The African Cultural Journey* with Instructor Braima Moiwai, *For Ages 3-6*

June 22 – 26, 9 am – noon:

Travel to West Africa this summer with Sierra Leonean artist and educator,
Braima Moiwai, as he shares folktales, hands-on drumming, sing-alongs, and
interactive games while relating his childhood stories growing up on a rice
farm in Sierra Leone. By the end of his five day visit, participants will
have gained a better understanding and appreciation of the history, music,
and daily life of West African culture.

*Materials Required: One white t-shirt per student*

Cost: $115.00 for five day camp; registration
deadline: June 15

Kids Camp 2:
*Broadway Bound Your Drama Camp I* with Erin Dangler, *for Ages 9-12*

June 22 – June 26, 2 – 5 pm

Do you love to sing?  Do you love to dance?  Do you love to act?  Then this
is the camp for you!  Students will engage in musical theatre choreography,
dramatic exercises, improvisational activities and basic music skills as
they learn the art of musical theatre.  The camp will culminate in a “final
showing” for parents and friends to watch what students have learned through
the course of the week.

Cost: $115 for five day camp, Registration Deadline: June 15
Location: Community Center in Briar Chapel

Kids Camp 3:
*Broadway Bound Drama Camp II *with Erin Dangler, for *Ages 6-9*

July 6 – 10, 2 – 5 pm

Same description as above except this camp is tailored to the needs of
younger children.

Cost: $115 for five day camp; Registration Deadline: June 25

Kids Camp 4:
*Picture Books from Start to Print I* with Bob Palmatier, for *Ages 7 – 9*

July 20th – July 24th, 2 – 5 pm

Do you have stories to tell? Can you imagine your own picture book in print?
This is the camp for you! Learn to divide your stories into page manuscripts
and how to design effective illustrations. Students will move from thumbnail
sketches to a book mockup during the course of the week. Plan final color or
black and white illustrations and learn how to find a printer to make your
book a reality! Share your book with family and friends at a culminating
“Book Show” at the end of the week.

Materials Required:

Drawing Pad; 8 1/2×11 or 9×12
(5 number 2 (or 2H) pencils
Erasers and small pencil sharpener

Cost: $115 for five day camp; Registration Deadline: July 6

Jounaling I

*Journaling: Myth, Our Lives, and the Story of Inanna*

Session 1:  Tuesdays June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7 – 2:30 – 4:30pm  OR

Session 2: Thursdays  June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2– 7 – 9pm

Originating in Sumeria, Innana is the earliest goddess for whom historians
have collected stories that extend from childhood through maidenhood,
maturation, death,
transformation and then a return to earth with wisdom for her people.
Through storytelling and journaling, we’ll relate the ancient of myth of
Inanna to our understanding our own lives today.  We will create a simple
story journal of our personal myth as we go.  Bring a 3-ring notebook and
plain (no lines) blank paper (hole punch available).

Cost: $55 per session; Registration Deadline: May 26

Drawing I:

*Drawing for People Who Can’t Draw *with illustrator, Emma Skurnick

July 10th – August 14th on Fridays only, 7 – 9 pm

Are you one of those people who think you can’t draw? Are stick figures and
doodles about as far as you’ve ever gotten? This is the class for you!
Drawing is a skill that can be taught, and Emma Skurnick has ten years
experience teaching all people how to do it.  Pulling from her bottomless
stack of tips, tricks, and techniques, she will lead you through a series of
exercises that will have you saying “I never knew I could draw so well!”

Materials Required:

Drawing Paper, Pencils, Tracing Paper

Cost:  $120; Registration Deadline: June 22
