From: Dedrah Earles
Subject: problems with CCCC

May I ask if anyone else has had problems with CCCC.  Three times me and or my daughter has tried to sign up for classes and three times it has been a not so pleasant experience.

Starts with telephone tag that can last up to 3 weeks before you finally get to talk to someone only to find out that you have the wrong someone and then you start again with the right someone. Then there seems to be some presumption that you should already know what to do and when you ask questions for guidence they are not received very well or you are given incorrect or incomplete information.  It now becomes a job to try to further your education or get one at all.

Subject: introduction  to the history of Chatham county

The N. C. Humanities Council is very interested in oral histories and would be especially interested in initial funding of a project that showed promise of becoming self sustaining and self perpetuating.

John Dykers
(I’m a former Council member and attended a celebration of a similar oral history just 2 weeks ago at the Advisory Committee’s annual meeting in Chapel Hill. The Council offices are in Greensboro. Call Annat 336-334-3379.)

Join Us for a Town Hall Discussion in Pittsboro on the Necessity of Public Investments in North Carolina

North Carolina’s state government faces a large budget shortfall. It is critical that elected officials hear from folks in their communities about the importance of public programs and services so they can make budget decisions that support communities and families and do not undermine the state’s economic recovery.=20

The institutions North Carolina families rely on — education, health care, unemployment insurance, housing assistance, just to name a few — are in jeopardy this year.

Kaufman’s proposal is a marvelous idea

From: Tom Glendinning
Subject: From: “Wallace Kaufman”  – Subject: A proposal

What a marvelous idea!  I trust that some group, like the Oral History out of UNC-CH, may take this on.

I would add the industrial and tax history to this project, outlining the loss of industry, jobs and the change in tax base revenues for the past 40-50 years.

Having moved here over forty years ago, I appreciate what changes have occured.  I learned social and political mores much the same way as Mr. Kaufman, as well as a deep respect for the ‘way things were’ and the vox populi.

Subject: Apologies

Wallace Kaufman has called to my attention that my post in response to “Anna Lyst” might be misinterpreted.

To all those who also found it  “disturbing” and “reminiscent of the old segregationist days in Chatham,” my sincere apologies. I assure you all that that was absolutely not my intention.
