Chatham’s Death Swamp

Subject: Chatham’s Death Swamp

Ever hear of the Great Dismal Swamp? Ever hear of The Swamp of Death? Well, we have one right here in Chatham County – dismal, yes, but there is nothing great about it.

For the past five or six years, I have noticed  a dramatic increase of mosquitoes around my property and home. A week ago, I found the reason why.  Five miles west of Pittsboro, near highway 64, is located a huge man-made, land-locked swamp. Dismal and stagnate, murky and dark. I can only guess the dimensionss- to me, it looks about 300-400 feet wide and even longer. It is evident that this was not always a swamp. Trees standing 20-30 feet tall stand in water- most of them dead.

Any Farmer would probably give permission to hunt coyotes on their land

From: Dalton Hamilton
Subject: Coyotes

All,
There have been a lot of people posting about Coyote sightings.  As at least one person has mentioned, Coyotes are very dangerous animals and if Coyotes are in your area and you have small children, please do not leave the children alone outside.

Coyotes are not native to NC.  They were introduced to NC to help keep the deer population down.  One reason you don’t see hardly any large deer is because the Coyote population has exploded.  Coyotes will track pregnant Doe deer and kill the Fawns when they are born. Coyotes have no natural enemy.  Coyotes are killing machines — that’s all they live for.

Re:  Laura & Michele

“I’m not sure why you even care about bringing your animals to the vet to get the shots.  You yourself stated that you can easily buy rabies vaccines online”

No; only vets can buy rabies vaccine

“I can’t imagine why you’d ever feel the need to let them see the inside of a vet’s office.”

I don’t, except for rabies vaccination

“I’m sure that this whole incident could have been cleared up with an additional phone call or other method of personal communication. “

A modest proposal

The danger of not knowing history, including the history of your own neighborhood and county, are considerably greater than simply repeating history and its misfortunes.  Posts about the latest controversy–liquor by the drink–reminded me of this fact and suggested a modest remedy.

Correct Vehicle to Pull a two Horse Trailer

Subject: RE: Correct Vehicle to Pull a 2 Horse Trailer.

For the person asking for information on the best truck to pull a trailer. I made the decision to trade my car for a truck in order to pull a trailer many years ago.

Here is what I learned.  You will need at least a 6 cylinder engine to pull a 2 horse trailer.   If you absolutely must have an automatic transmission, you will need to purchase a special towing package. (you can pull it without this package.. But be prepared to have constant problems with your transmission).   The smartest thing to do is to purchase a manual transmission.
