Subject: Opportunity to host 4-H International Exchange Students
Local families are needed to host Japanese exchange students, ages 12 to 18, for four weeks this summer as part of a two-way exchange program sponsored by 4-H. N.C. 4-H is looking for 22 families to host students from Japan during the summer, July 24 – August 20. There are also opportunities to host Norwegian students, July 1-30, Costa Rican students, June 21-July18 and Finnish students, June 14-July 12. This is a great way for young people to learn about another country and culture.

Subject: TOY BOX, Donations
The Bennett Elementary School needs your help. We are seeking a plain toy box (undecorated/stained) to be auctioned on April 24 to support PTA activities. In addition, we would welcome gift certificates from local businesses, and any other items that could be auctioned to help support our school. I know Chatham County is blessed to have so many talented artisans in our midst now, and we would welcome donations from them as well.
Please contact me via cell phone if you can help.

Subject: Moles and Voles
Gene,
Thanks for the link on distinguishing moles and voles and some control options (Chatlist # 3383). I’ll avoid recreating all of that. But I will issue two cautions:
1. In North Carolina moles are a non-game animal. Therefore, trapping requires a permit from the NC Wildlife resources commission. Voles are a legitimate pest animal and may be controlled with registered products.
2. Everyone should be wary of ordering pest control products from out of state. Even EPA approved products must also be approved by the NC Department of Agriculture for pest control. When ordering pest control products online or by phone, ask if the product is registered in North Carolina.
