I would like to comment on a couple ofl threads that have been on the chatlist recently.

The first is in regards to the deer population.  This discussion began with tick born diseases. Nowhere was it mentioned that deer are only one of the vectors in the ticks life cycle. Another and just as important vector is/are rodents (bye the bye they carry  many diseases). These animals have many natural preditors but the one that many peoiple misunderstand and fear are the various snakes that live here. Many think that the only good snake is a dead one but they are beneficial and should be left alone unless they actually pose a danger to people.

Subject: We found our dog

Thanks to the Chatlist and the chatlist readers, we found our dog, Jule, just today. A person that knew someone that had seen it on the chatlist, and maybe even a few more degrees of separation, called and luckily Jule stayed in the area where she was first spotted on Wednesday. We then had another call from someone this morning from the same area and that made for a sighting just an hour before I arrived there to whistle and walk around. She wandered 3 to 5 miles from home.

Folks -

It is a temptation to assume that the police only act inappropriately  against people who deserve it. That police only stop people who are  guilty. That I don’t have to worry about how the police treat people,  because I am a good guy and therefore the police will never stop me.

Regarding the Pittsboro Police

Subject: Regarding the Pittsboro Police

I too have had an experience with Officer B.Hadley, i was driving the the speed limit on 64 thru town and suddenly someone started riding my back end, within 15 ft or so.

Unable to see that this was a police officer seeing this was late afternoon and his lights were blinding me, I slightly sped up about 5mph and put on my right turn signal so i could pull over to the side and let this maniac pass to avoid this car from rear ending me. Upon speeding up slightly for my own safety and that of my 2 yr old daughter who was in the back car seat asleep at the time, he flipped on his siren lights.

Just wanted to thank the 150 students from all over the country who have chosen Chatham County as their spring break destination! We are grateful that instead of soaking up the sun on a warm beach, you are slogging through snow and mud to help build homes in partnership with our county’s low-income families through Chatham Habitat for Humanity. We hope that instead of sunburn, you’ll go home with the amazing feeling that comes from making a difference in the lives of others. You are truly an inspiration! To view a news clip by NBC-17 about this week’s students (from Vilanova and Boston College) go to:

I have a very simple way for you to avoid being pulled over for speeding

I have a very simple way for you to avoid being pulled over for speeding.  It’s called a “radar detector.”  Get one that has X, K, Ka, Ku, 360-degree laser, and Ka “POP” detection, and learn how to use it properly.  Despite some law enforcement officers laughing off radar detectors as being expensive garbage cans you mount on your windshield, they work if you understand how to use them properly and they can not only prevent you from being pulled over to be issued an invoice for the “speeding tax,” they also provide evidence that may get you out of an unjustified ticket in court if radar was not used and the officer was not close enough to your car to accurately pace-clock it.  It may also prevent an officer issuing such a ticket when they see that you have equipment to detect if their radar was actually off.
