I just wanted to tell everyone about the great service I received at the Quick Change Oil and Lube on 15-501 South and 902.

There is a new owner there who has dropped the prices and provided fantastic and friendly service. When I brought our truck in, they not only did what I asked but they also did extra for me at no extra cost and in decent time. I don’t think I waited more then 20 minutes there. In return of the great service I told him I would let the chatlist know about them and the changes. Right now if you go in and mention you saw it on the chatlist he will give $3.00 off a Full service oil change which is $34.00 + tax.

Diane,        Try the link below for the American Society of Consulting Arborists.  There is a finder function on that page and five members in NC, two in Pittsboro area.  Otherwise, call a tree service.  Most have training in diagnosis.  Fungus on a tree is, usually, a sign of decline or damage.  It is not fatal, but just an indication that rot has begun on some exposed or dead wood.  Some fungi exist on the outside of trees naturally.

Subject: Our County Commissioners Rock–or Off Their Rockers?

You may be proud, Ann, but I am disappointed.  The very definition of discrimination is to apply different standards to people based on irrelevant factors such as their race, ethnicity, gender, etc.  If we have laws, those laws ought to apply to everyone, without exception.

I heartily recommend Chad Phillips of Total Land Care.  His number is 336-328-1094.

Chad is a Certified Arborist…and it shows.  He has a great deal of knowledge about how to care for trees–anything from growing ‘em to treating them for disease to taking ‘em down, when it’s necessary.  He’s a member of a tree preservation and management group in Asheboro and used to work as an arborist for the zoo in Asheboro, until he went out on his own.

Pittsboro, NC – Chatham County Schools will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, January 29, at 9 a.m. for the new middle school that will be in the Briar Chapel development.

Directions: From Hwy. 15-501 north of Fearrington Village, turn left on Andrews Store Rd. Turn right at the Briar Chapel construction entrance that is the first (gravel) road past Woods Charter School.

The new middle school is slated to open in November 2010.

Subject: Propane Service Problem

We were on Economy Propane Service in Pittsboro for a long time and found out this past summer that this company had the employees come in regular on a Friday – had them sit for 8 hours and handed them their termination checks.  One day notice for selling there company to Cooper Oil and a weeks severance pay……..Not a good way to do business, especially when we valued the service of so many of their fine employees.  We, as a customer were never sent any notification of the new ownership – so we cancelled there services and went with another propane service = Blossman’s out of Sanford = wonderful folks to work with.

I just wanted to advise everyone to check out references for handymen/painters carefully, especially those who just stop by.

Yesterday a man drove up in a nice pick-up truck and wanted to paint our barn roof.  I was naturally suspicious as we don’t get people just stopping by out here.  To make a long story shorter, I asked where he was from and he said South Carolina.

Chatham rejects immigration program
By From Staff Reports

Chatham County officials say they oppose participating in a federal program that would allow local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration laws.
Chatham commissioners last week approved a resolution expressing “strong opposition” to any local agency contracting with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the program.

A number of sheriff’s offices and police departments in the state have formed partnerships with ICE to flag for deportation any illegal immigrants who are arrested.
