Subject: Sponsor a Child for Christmas
Chatham County Department of Social Services’ Christmas Wishes Program is asking for your help this year to make the Christmas Holiday special for each child in foster care in Chatham County. We need sponsors to support the program, which helps meet three Christmas wishes of each child in foster care.
In the past, we have had families, individuals, and organizations as sponsors. You can help one child, an entire family, or a group of siblings. Monetary contributions are also acceptable and all donations go directly to purchasing items for children in foster care.

Subject: Deer Dodging…..Oh, What Fun
When you see one deer cross the road, expect more right behind it.
If you see a herd crossing the road, and one turns around and goes back, beware. Some of the others that have already crossed may turn around and run right in front of you. They are thinking herd instinct. Learned that one the hard way. Ouch. When it is mating season, like NOW, males, or as we prefer to be called, Big Strong Bucks, are totally oblivious to anything if they are following the scent of a doe in heat. Think the bar scene in the college days.

After your unfortunate incident with one of our more adorable Chatham county mammals, there is a number to call to have your trophy removed from the side of the roadway. A call to 742-3431 will prompt the DOT to dispatch the necessary implements and men to retrieve the carcii.
This works for dogs, too. Anything dead that has fallen within the parameters of the right of way. I’ve even called in a dead skunk last year that met its fate in front of B&L Supply. (I told them on the phone that it was a small dog to avoid any potential mishandling of the request, if you know what I mean…).

Deer Fences, barely visible and quite effective.
I have been installing this type of fence in the Chapel Hill area for seven years now and am quite satisfied with the results. It is a seven-foot, heavy-duty, black plastic mesh, with cables and groundstakes. Custom size gates of any width. I have enclosed areas as small as 400 square feet and several properties of four acres or more.
