The Chatham Coalition endorsement said this about Gene, “Galin’s campaign raises another concern. His ownership and editorial control of the Chatham Journal, the Chatham Chatlist and the Chatham Online Bulletin Board, which often cover discussions of Chatham Schools, poses a conflict of interest for him as a candidate, and an even more serious conflict if he is elected to the School Board.”

I for one do not believe that it is a conflict of interest to have brought to this County, through tireless and selfless effort, the one major vehicle of on-line communication for and about the citizens, government, and activities of Chatham. Gene’s care for the community as shown by these and other efforts, is indicative of someone who is *involved* in his community. Think about it. The Coalition’s message on the Chatlist would not have been possible without Gene … where is the conflict?

If elected, these attributes won’t be a conflict of interest, it will be open government. I believe that is what we want in our elected officials.
