Subject: Painter Recommendation
I finally made the move to Chatham County and I’m lovin it so far. I can’t wait to get settled in more and have all the work behind me.
In getting my 1930′s farmhouse remodeled I came across an excellent painter who does lots of work for the bigger contractors around central NC. In fact he painted Siler City Elementary, Bonlee Middle School and Horton Middle School as a contracted job. Martinez Painting, owner Diego Martinez who speaks excellent english and has a wonderful disposition to boot.

Subject: hard water
Since we have moved to Bennett, NC we have discovered the really hard well water here. It has a very unappealing “earthy” taste– so we are not drinking it.
I took a sample to a plumbing supply place and it tested at 32 grains. No iron, but calcium and magnesium. The guy there said that he had heard of hard water in Boone area at 18 as the hardest– but I won the prize for having the hardest. He joking asked me to bring in another sample so that he could amaze is friends and co workers. Then he told me that I would need the “big boy” water softener unit ($1200 unit).

Subject: The new McDonald’s
If you’re reading this, then two events of earth shattering and life ending proportions have come to pass with nary a hair lost in their wakes of death and destruction.
The first of these is the opening of the new McDonald’s on the Hwy 64 Bypass in Pittsboro. I read the cries of the many on the Chatham Chatlist in angered protest against McDs coming to town as person after person revealed their most intimate painful memories of how this mega-corporation had sewn the seeds of chaos in their lives.

Subject: Civil War and Revolution in Chatham
Robert Waldrop takes me to task (#3201-16) for saying that (expanded a bit) that a man who enlists in the military and then deserts brings shame on himself and his family. I realize that in “backwoods NC” there were many who opposed NC seceding from the Union, just as, in the same area, there were many Loyalists who opposed the US seceding from Great Britain. The US won that war and were thus “proven to be right”; whereas NC and the Confederacy lost the War of Southern Secession, and were thus “proven wrong”.

Subject: looking for new Church in the Silk Hope, Siler City area
I moved moved from the east side of Chatham county to the west side of Chatham county about 3 years ago and have been making the 40 min.drive 2 – 3 times a week because I LOVE the Church I have been attending.
I think it is time to look locally though and just don’t know where to start. I’m not just a “Sunday go to Church” girl. I like to be a part of the Church, Sundays, Bible Studies, community work, fund raising, God’s work and when I have to say no because of economics then it breaks my heart.

Subject: Let’s give a warm welcome to visiting Mennonite group!
A group of Mennonites from Willow Street, Pennsylvania is traveling to Siler City on Saturday, Sept. 6 to help build a house in the Westmont subdivision during “Building on Faith Week,” a national program of Habitat for Humanity International. The group, made up of experienced builders, electricians, and plumbers, plans to frame a house, install roofing and siding, hang wall board, and nearly complete an entire house for a local low-income family. Many of the volunteers are using vacation time from their jobs to participate in the project.

Subject: Pittsboro Has Confederates In The Closet ?
In Ed Williams posting (#3199-10) he states:
(3) Re Robert Waldrop’s mention of his Civil War ancestors, and his statement (#3197-23) that “History proves what was or is right”. Well, the winning side in a war is always “proven” to be right, regardless of all
political or other arguments. My paternal grandfather was wounded in a skirmish at Drewry’s Bluff (VA) a few days before the Battle of Cold Harbor. Thank God for that, since if he had fought in that battle, I probably
wouldn’t be here. But I’m glad he didn’t bring shame on the family by deserting. Ed Williams
