Robert Waldrop takes me to task (#3201-16) for saying that (expanded a bit) that a man who enlists in the military and then deserts brings shame on himself and his family. I realize that in “backwoods NC” there were many who opposed NC seceding from the Union, just as, in the same area, there were many Loyalists who opposed the US seceding from Great Britain. The US won that war and were thus “proven to be right”; whereas NC and the Confederacy lost the War of Southern Secession, and were thus “proven wrong”.

Subject: looking for new Church in the Silk Hope, Siler City area
I moved moved from the east side of Chatham county to the west side of Chatham county about 3 years ago and have been making the 40 min.drive 2 – 3 times a week because I LOVE the Church I have been attending.
I think it is time to look locally though and just don’t know where to start. I’m not just a “Sunday go to Church” girl. I like to be a part of the Church, Sundays, Bible Studies, community work, fund raising, God’s work and when I have to say no because of economics then it breaks my heart.

Subject: Let’s give a warm welcome to visiting Mennonite group!
A group of Mennonites from Willow Street, Pennsylvania is traveling to Siler City on Saturday, Sept. 6 to help build a house in the Westmont subdivision during “Building on Faith Week,” a national program of Habitat for Humanity International. The group, made up of experienced builders, electricians, and plumbers, plans to frame a house, install roofing and siding, hang wall board, and nearly complete an entire house for a local low-income family. Many of the volunteers are using vacation time from their jobs to participate in the project.

Wed. = 9a to 12 noon
Hospice Office in the Chatham Mill Building

Volunteers are part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals serving patients near the end of their lives.
Volunteers serve patients and families in their homes, give office support and assist with special events.
