Senatorial candidate Kay Hagan was the headliner at the 2008 Chatham County Democratic Party Breakfast that drew a crowd of about 200 Chatham Democrats. Karl G. Kachergis, Chatham party chairman played the role of Master of Ceremonies for the event.
Congressmen David Price and Bob Etheridge were present as well as Bob Atwater. Local officials present were Commissioners Mike Cross, George Lucier, Carl Thompson, and Tom Vanderbeck. Clerk of Court Janice Oldham and her husband sat across from DA Jim Woodall. Judges Carl Fox and Allen Baddour. Sheriff Richard Webster. BOE member Gerald Totten. From Pittsboro, Randy Voller and Pam Baldwin made an appearance.

Judy Hogan, founding editor of Carolina Wren Press (1976-91) and 2008 winner of the Indy Arts Award, will teach “Journal Writing: Self-Healing Seed Bed” beginning September 8 at CCCC in Pittsboro. The course will run consecutive Mondays through October 13, 7-9 P.M. Reading published journals from May Sarton, Anais Nin, Thoreau, and Virginia Woolf will stimulate various strategies for enhancing students’ writing. There are no prerequisites. Subject: Proud to be a Northwood Parent
The most outstanding thing I witnessed on Saturday at the North Johnston high school soccer jamboree was the display of team spirit and good sportsmanship demonstrated by the young men of the Northwood Varsity Boys Soccer Team throughout the day. Even down to sincerely thanking the folks who provided the refreshments between games and picking up their garbage!!!!
Northwood won all three matches, against 4A West Johnston, 3A Fike and 3A Hunt. Awesome outing for the new year. (By the way, Goalie Zac Scott holds onto a beautiful zero against all opponents thanks to resilient teamwork and some clever saves.)
On Thursday morning, November 20, the J.S. Waters School faculty and staff were astounded to find forty-seven cases of food and five cases of water at the front entrance of the school. An attached note read, "Help for tornado victims, Thanks, Unknown 82nd Airborne Paratrooper."
