Maybe it should just be about starting Lacrosse in Chatham and not  “endowing” any particular schools.
If all the kids come out and interest is there, parents and volunteers and  school staff will follow…be it at a new school or at Horton or Silk  Hope.

It’s amazing how quick people are to take perceived offense at the slightest small thing and then blow it out of proportion.

“Oh noes!  Those rich white Cary/Chapel Hill invaders want to keep the rest of us out of the world of Lacrosee!  If you can’t organize and PAY for the entire county, then you can’t have it at all!”

All I see after reading this is a few Lacrosse loving parents who live in the NE section of our fine county trying to organize an activity for their children, who will not be going to NW, or JM or wherever.  I see some pro-active parents doing exactly what Meg has been begging everyone to do for years now.  Being active in THEIR school for THEIR children.

But now that’s not good enough.  It seems to me that parents being pro-active is only “good” or “worthy” or whatever when they are being pro-active for the entire county.  I don’t know what Meg does, or how much free time she has, but if I had kids (and while I don’t have kids, I HAVE been active in trying to organize things like this before) I certainly would devote the time necessary to make my neighborhood better.  What happens in the opposite corner of the county is up to the people who live there.

Organizing anything like this takes time and money, and it is only natural, and only right, that the parents up there should spend THEIR time and THEIR money helping out THEIR kids and THEIR kid’s schools.

No one else in the county seems to have been so pro-active, so we now see that certain people in the county want to decry the invaders to the north out of one side of their mouth for being selfish and ruining our “way of life” while urging those same people to “be responsible and help the community”. Only to become upset and cry discrimination and “rich white privilege” when they don’t do it exactly the way YOU want it done.

You can’t have it both ways kids.  You can either treat the people up north as being different, and making it an issue of US versus THEM as many people here often do, OR you can say “Those people up there are doing a great thing by making the schools up there better for their kids.  I think I’ll do the same for MY kids”

So you can keep whining that a group of parents are helping out their kids and not yours, or you can talk to those parents and say “I like what you’re doing with the Lacrosse introduction and I’d like your assistance becaues I want to do the same for my kids in this other part of Chatham County.”
