After several alarming encounters with other “shops” a landlady long-ago sent me to “Mr. Whittaker”.  I’ve never been disappointed.  He’s done tires, rotating tires, complete tune-ups, advice, inspections, all kinds of stuff.

His is the small, unassuming shop in the white structure located right across from Alan’s Barbeque.

I encountered a problem I think should be shared with our fellow readers.

I recently needed to purchase some tires for my car. I went to Chapel Hill Tire at cole park plaza. After discussing options, I selected a set and agreed to  have them installed next day. After installation and payment which included  alignment, I drove the car home…in driving I noticed a rather pronounced steering problem, I called the store, they said bring it in , which I did.

Subject: Update on county line 15/501 Project??

I have heard that a Walgreens and First Bank have been approved for the big open space right at the Orange/Chatham count line.  Anyone heard that?  I thought they had to submit plans and we would have had a chance to see the entire plan before they just started building??  Anyone know where to go and get updates?

If you have receive a personal identification number as a temporary employee of the UNC University or Hospital, you will qualify to join the Commuter Alternative Program and park in the lot.

Anyone can use Southern Village’s park and ride lot and also the Eubanks, Carrboro, 54 (near Friday Center) and Jones Ferry park & ride lots. These are completely open to the public and also have free transit service.

Subject: Cell phone service and PBO/Silk Hope area

Can anyone provide recommendations for cell phone service in the Pittsboro/Silk Hope (Bob Cat Pointe near Henderson-Tanyard Rd.) area?  I currently have Nextel service and it is really not consistent.  I have to run around the house trying to get a signal.  Someone mentioned Alltel might have better service but I’ve also heard that AT&T might be putting up a new tower in the area.  Any information on this topic would be helpful.

I echo Dan Cahoon’s sentiments about Enterprise.  They sent a collection agency after me for $71 I didn’t know I owed them on a car I rented last summer.  Perhaps if they’d sent me a bill when they undercharged me I would
have paid it.  I’m getting nowhere fast with them…. they’re off my list, too!
