“They could care less about small, local places like S&T’s Soda Shoppe,”

In the words of that lovable green giant, Shrek, “Hold the phone”!

S&T’s is a gem.  Even though I will occasionally patronize the new McD’s, I will make way more trips to S&T’s.

Tourism and Taxes and McD’s

Enjoyed the post about us Chathamites needing tourism tax dollars. We certainly do, but we rarely get any. Jordan Lake only gets us Gas Tax and some snack taxes. Does Pittsboro even have a motel in which the boaters can stay ? Ferrington probably attracts more tourism tax dollars than the whole impact of the lake. With the new 1500′ set back from our major thoroughfares, we are really capping the tourism $ – no one will build that far back and if they did, no one would know they are there.

We need all types of local jobs

Just wanted to say that I commend the guy for standing up for the people in Subway. I worked in the food industry before I stayed home with my kids for 12 years. It is very difficult dealing with people like that when they get irate. It’s nice when people realize how hard you work and for little pay.

Liquor by the drink

I think Chatham Cty needs to have more than beer and wine in restaurants. Chatham Cty will not get any restaurants like Red Robin, Outback, Chili’s, Applebee’s, Maggiano’s, LongHorn, etc. if they cannot
sell liquor by the drink.

We will continue to have fast food places like Burger King, Hardee’s, etc.  I now have to travel to either Durham or Apex and would rather spend my money in Chatham. I am not a drinker but like to go to nice restaurants. With all the growth in the area, should they spend their money elsewhere?

I would like to “ditto” Tami Schwerin’s recommendation of Susan Harris in Moncure — she is indeed the flower lady extraordinaire.

Susan Harris

Susan has initiated a most creative business:

- you can subscribe to 18 weeks of fresh, locally grown, completely organic flowers with wonderful variety for a flat fee (you pick up or have them delivered/ fees differ depending on level of service)

McDonalds and places to eat in Pittsboro

Hi everyone.

First off, I love reading this chatlist – its so much more entertaining than any newspaper.

I also feel compelled to jump in and respond to the recent posts regarding fast food coming to town.  It appears one gentleman is under the impression that the only places to choose from are Hardees and Subway.

I work at Chatham Marketplace – and we offer fast food – we do awesome breakfast sandwiches, croissants, muffins, coffee, lunch and dinner salad and warm meal bar.  Our prices compete with any fast food and we support local businesses and farms.

Subway and Uncle Dan

Despite Uncle Dan’s performance at Subway, it is still nothing more than just another national chain of fast food eatery.

Limp bread, limp cheeze, limp atmosphere and wilted “pre-shredded lettuce” expressed in from California.

Uncle Dan got sumpin’ against full figured gals? Apparently he has never performed in opera.

Speaking of Prima donnas

Hello- My name is Ollie Waddell- I moved here from Alabama with my wife Texie.

I just wanted to say that my wife and I visit the Pittsboro Farmer’s Market every Thursday and are delighted with the array of produce, plants and local fare.  We always buy  fresh cut flowers from Mustard Seed Farm-  The lady has something new and different every week. Cut iris, snapdragons, lilies, etc.  Always good color arrangements- very reasonably priced.

Subject: Dangerous Dogs

Hello, Dan!

So sorry to hear about the negative experiences you are having with dogs.

My name is Nicole Silvers, and I am the new behavior management consultant in residence at Goathouse Gallery & Refuge in Pittsboro. I have extensive experience with extreme behavior, including fear & aggression. I prefer to coach owners to work with the dogs themselves; however, when there is a risk of injury, this is not always a possibility.
