After careful consideration, the Board of Directors of The Hispanic Liaison has decided to postpone the annual Fiesta Latina until next year.

This year’s Fiesta Latina scheduled for June 21, 2008 at Shakori Hills has been canceled.  The decision was made in large part due to the difficult financial situation that is affecting consumers and businesses nationwide. “Chatham County is feeling first hand the effects of the economic difficulties our country is facing,” says Ivan Remnitz, Board President. “The recent closing of Pilgrims Pride in Chatham County brings enormous hardship to our community—we feel that right now the Hispanic Liaison must focus its attention towards the increased need for client services.” Remnitz continued.

Every year, the community looks forward to this annual multicultural celebration of music, arts, educational booths and children’s activities. “Fiesta is a wonderful and safe family event. The community will definitely miss it this year.”  says Walter Garcia, a community member.

The Hispanic Liaison’s Board and Staff ask that you save the date for a fun-filled Fiesta Latina on June 20, 2009 at Shakori Hills. “Last year we moved to Shakori Hills and we had the most successful Fiesta yet–around 3,000 people attended. We had a huge support from sponsors, fantastic entertainment, and great activities for kids. “It was a lot of fun for everybody…I am sure that 2009 will bring a similar success” says Marcia Espínola, Associate Director of the organization.

The Hispanic Liaison is non-profit, membership- based organization that was founded in 1995. The mission of the organization is to foster cultural understanding between Latinos and other residents of Chatham County and to empower Hispanics to overcome the challenges they face as immigrants. Services include Assistance to Victims of Crime or Fraud, a Basic Needs Assistance Program, and a Gang Prevention and Youth Leadership Program. The Hispanic Liaison serves more than 5,000 clients each year from Chatham and the surrounding counties.
