Chatham CARES Community Pharmacy
From the website: http://www.chathamcares.com/
“Chatham CARES Community Pharmacy is a nonprofit, community-based organization committed to reducing health disparities by providing access to quality pharmacy services for the low-income, uninsured, and underinsured residents of Chatham County.”

Located in the Western Chatham Senior Center in Siler City, Chatham CARES Community Pharmacy was formed by a group of local healthcare professionals. The most common reason for poor management of chronic health issues and for readmisison to hospitals is patients’ failure take prescribed medicines, and often that failure is do to the prohibitive cost of pharmaceuticals and insurance. The Pharmacy fills prescriptions for commonly prescribed medicines and does not distribute scheduled drugs (e.g. no narcotics).

Chatham Cares is a member of the Association of Free Clinics of NC. The majority of the medicines that are distributed are donated to the Pharmacy from distributors and manufacturers. There are no age restrictions. Refer to the website for hours of operation, volunteer, translator and donation opportunities. Prescription pick up is also provided at the Eastern Chatham Senior Center in Pittsboro through a special arrangement between the two non-profit organizations.

The phone number is: 663-0177.

*** Also: The NC Institute of Medicine is maintaining a new website to assist North Carolinians in locating free or reduced health care services: http://nchealthcarehelp.org/

The Safety Net Advisory Council, created in 2005 to act as a communication link among organizations, collected data on more than 300 NC providers and established the website to enable residents to search for safety net providers. Searches by county, hours of operation, patient insurance accepted (such as Uninsured or Medicaid) and services (such as dental or primary care) are available.

The NC Institute of Medicine maintains the website with financial support from the Duke Endowment and the Blue Cross and Blue Sheild of NC Foundation.
