My fiancee lives in Pittsboro, and she has been concerned about the warnings the city is required by law to send, notifying everyone of contaminants in the water.  I’m concerned too, as I work in Pittsboro and I try to drink lots of water as a good-health practice.

The Chatham County Public Health Department has shown that it can rise above significant challenges to earn its state accreditation with flying colors. It met 100% of the 41 benchmarks required by the state.

“I am so proud of our employees for demonstrating that they can keep programs running smoothly through changes in leadership and major facility renovations,” said Chatham County Health Director Holly Coleman.

Unless you have a lot of power and a lot of money there is nothing that can be done about the McDonalds. Ricky Spoon is the developer and it is coming.

In case you did not know a big strip mall about 46 acres is going in across from  Northwood. I personally can not wait for these things to come. That means all my  shopping needs and the occasional  Happy Meal need will be met  within 10 miles of home. Saving me a whole lot of liquid gold (gas).

After careful consideration, the Board of Directors of The Hispanic Liaison has decided to postpone the annual Fiesta Latina until next year.

This year’s Fiesta Latina scheduled for June 21, 2008 at Shakori Hills has been canceled.  The decision was made in large part due to the difficult financial situation that is affecting consumers and businesses nationwide. “Chatham County is feeling first hand the effects of the economic difficulties our country is facing,” says Ivan Remnitz, Board President. “The recent closing of Pilgrims Pride in Chatham County brings enormous hardship to our community—we feel that right now the Hispanic Liaison must focus its attention towards the increased need for client services.” Remnitz continued.

Subject: Response about dangerous dogs

Kit,

Just want to thank you for your post.  I had all the same feelings, but wasn’t able to put my thoughts together in an intelligent way.  I have family members who have tried to save dangerous dogs with tragic results.  I, too, am an animal lover, and have 2 German shepherds.  I cannot imagine how devastating it would be to have to make a decision like this, but think it is important to realize these dogs cannot be rehabilitated.  It is also important to acknowledge the stream of logic and behavior in a dog’s mind.  This will only get worse.

Dan, I was touched by your heart-felt post on NCLB. After so many struggles with my son in the public school system and IEP’s not being followed, I ended up making the decision to remove him from public school and begin paying for private education. He had gotten to the point where he was crawling under the desks at school, clawing at his skin, trying to force himself  to throw up in the mornings so he wouldn’t have to go, etc.. In fourth grade, he came home one day to tell me his teacher called him stupid. That was the final straw.
