“I have owned a house in Chatham County for 25 years and am preparing to sell it. I voted against the LTT because I didn’t want to be gouged by the lefties. I am paying enough in property taxes now.”

Well, you’d better hurry up and sell your house because one, if not both, of the following is going to happen:

(1) your property taxes will go up,  BECAUSE the LTT was voted down, and the county still needs money for all that infrastructure

or

(2) the LTT will be resurrected, because it makes SENSE – it puts the burden of paying for growth on those who are contributing to the growth.

Now there are several other things also influencing your situation, which isn’t exactly promising:

(1) the housing market is experiencing a little downturn, so it might take a while to sell your house

(2) you might have to reduce the price of your house to attract buyers

(3) buyers might be more interested in a new home, and there are plenty of them on the market

(4) but with the price of everything else going up, who can afford to buy a house

(5) and mortgages are a lot harder to qualify for now

So, yes, the threat of the LTT doesn’t exactly help.  But don’t blame the “lefties” for all your problems.  They’re not responsible for the mortgage crisis and it’s subsequent impact on the housing market.  They’re not responsible for the uncontrolled growth going on in this county.  They didn’t approve the over 100,000 new developments that now require all the infrastructure that somebody has to pay for.  And they’re not responsible for you deciding to sell your house at such an unfortunate time.

So quit whining about the lefties. And you know what?  I really don’t want to hear about what a burden taxes are, especially from someone who voted against the LTT.
