Thank goodness for Brenda, who actually understood what I was trying to say. She was right on the money.
And, shame on you Steve for always trying to twist things that I say and make them into something they are not. A perfect example was the Piggly Wiggly bench comment. I was never talking about a specific group of people that was only in your mind. I loved also when you mentioned the ladies outside Chatham Marketplace of course that was very chauvinistic of you.

Subject: Pittsboro/Chapel Hill transit now on regional drawing board
Hi all,
Triangle Transit has slated a bus route to run between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill to begin during 2011. The timing would be sooner, but it all depends on (gasp! surprise!) the funding agreement. Since Chatham is outside the area funded by Orange, Wake and Durham counties, 67% of the funding will need to be raised from municipal sources.

There are alternatives available to large-acre landowners to keep their property taxes down. Any owner of 20+ acres of woodland can, for the low cost of developing a forest management plan, place their land in forestry use value for taxation purposes. This will significantly lower the assessed value and the tax burden. Likewise, land in agricultural use can be placed in use value and significantly lower the tax burden. (Check with the Agriculture Extension Office for details on how these programs work.)

I have stayed out of the fray on this issue for a long time. Now, I will weigh in with the following comments.
I believe this is an argument based on the ability to hear or listen. I see no comments about how many screams there are when the lives hundreds of future tomato plants are cut short by harvesting one tomato. Has anyone ever heard the groan of a mighty oak or statuesque tulip poplar when they are felled, hard to do over the whine of a chain saw. I often imagine that I should wear ear muffs when mowing the grass, millions of eaks from plants not wanting a hair cut. Again, hard to imagine over the drone of the mower.

In response to the water contamination issue I would recommend all Chatham County folks drink more BEER! As an Aussie this is sound advise from downunder!
OR
Put a water filter system on your home at the entrance point so you can be
sure your water is “cleaned” before it touches your lips!!!

Melissa Green asked me to forward this note to the chatlist.
Hi Everyone,
Valgean Mitchell, the principal of Perry Harrison School, sent a note home on the last day of school regarding teacher reassignments for next year. In this note, it was written as if my position, or basically, as if I was asked to resign my position as a teacher at PHS.

Subject: Grazing
I’ve heard also that the Grazing program may end in August- But I’m hoping this is something that the County Officials wont do lightly. With Recycling being such a huge issue worldwide, I can’t imagine that the negatives of grazing outweigh the positives. I do understand sometimes people may take advantage and “dip in” without have the cards, and this is a pain for the waste management folks, But the rules could be tightened where needed. I know I’ve rescued quite a few helpful things for our small farm, that would have otherwise been added junk for the landfill. Does anyone know when this will be voted on, and who we need to address our concerns to? Thank you- Julie Cummins

Subject: They have EARNED the right to “hang out”
I’ve been following all the stuff about “hipvegan?”, but one post I definately need to respond to. Those GENTLEMEN that hang out in front of the Piggly Wiggly (formerly Lowe’s) are all retired folks that have EARNED the right to “hang out”! I’ve known almost all of them for years..they used to freguent my store almost daily, when they got off work doing hot, backbreaking labor..to call them vagrants is a completely uninformed, presumptious remark!
Sincerely,
Deborah Bair
