Subject: Chatham County Recreation
I’d like to comment and hopefully clarify on a few recreation issues in Chatham — I don’t know a thing about the 3 on 3 basketball tournament, its cost, the basis for its cost, or where its proceeds will go.
But, I do want to clarify that the funds held by the Chatham County Recreation Department as a result of the Recreation Exaction Fee are required to be used for facilities (land acquisition and improvement,
buildings, fields, play structures, etc). It may not be used for operating expenses, programming, etc. This is the money (along with state matching funds and regular county operating funds) that was used to build the Southwest Park, and was/will be used for the park in North Chatham as well.

Subject: Response to Subject: what is going in Main Street Station building?
Not sure *exactly* what you are referring to, but my church will be leasing the upper portion of Main Street Station. They are renovating to our specs I know and that is, perhaps, what youa re referring to?
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) and we have had many families move into Pittsboro in the last few years. Instead of being split between large Chapel Hill and Sanford congregations, they put us Pittsboro folks together and we’ve been attending in the multipurpose room of Horton Middle.

Subject: Open Thank You to Patrick Barnes
I’d like to thank Patrick Barnes for his service to Chatham County.
I voted for Patrick in 2004 but I didn’t vote for him this time. Nothing against him at all, no disappointment in his work on the board. I just thought Sally Kost’s experience would be great to have on the board.
But I’m so glad Patrick (and Mike) was there when we needed him. He was a big part of turning the tide and changing the direction the county was headed. For that I have nothing but gratitude.

Subject: Where do I live?
Mark:
Sometimes I wonder if anyone knows where they live in the small town rural areas. Not sure who made up the townships around here but having lived here for 19 years I still get confused. My address is Bear Creek, my telephone number Bennett with a 336 exchange and I vote in Bennett. Heaven forbid if
you try to find my through information and my address. I’m not sure if even the natives know exactly where they sometimes! Maybe it’s just me, sometimes I just don’t know where I am, when I’m supposed to be!

Subject: Andy’s Burgers, Shakes & Fries
“Andy’s is the busiest, coolest place in Siler City. Check us out. We cater, too.” This is a quote from TJ, owner of Andy’s in Siler City. My husband & I enjoyed freshly-squeezed lemonade — perfect, not too sweet. The strawberry & chocolate shakes are outstanding. The huge hamburgers are made with
freshly ground chuck. They even have drive-thru. The music is from the ’50s and pleasantly brings back memories.
Try them when you’re looking for an alternative to Sonic or McDonald’s.

Subject: Elitist?
I don’t always agree with everything Hipvegan/Aurora says, but sometimes she makes some good points, too. As for your calling her “elitist,” Steve, I don’t see it. I mean, she’s arguing that people ought to consider what it must be like to be a chicken or pig or cow on a factory farm, destined for a short life in unnatural confinement with often questionable food, water and waste disposal provided for the animal before it is slaughtered. And the slaughtering, itself, which can be done as humanely as possible when small scale production is used, can too often become a nightmare of fear and pain for the animals in situations where “economies of scale” are desired in mass production of meat.
