McDonalds, Artists, etc.

June 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Why can’t we all just get along? I don’t understand the folks who want to (even Love to) tell others how to live, where to shop, what to eat, how to dress, etc. What ever happened to “Live and Let Live”?

I love cheeseburgers. But, I have never once gone up to someone eating a salad and suggested they eat a burger instead. I also love fried chicken. Yet, I have never felt the urge to post anything on the chat list suggesting everyone in Chatham County should eat fried chicken every day instead of whatever type of vegie diet they might be on.

Subject: Options for Chatham seniors to cope with heat wave

The Chatham County Council on Aging offers several programs and suggestions to help local senior citizens cope with heat waves. “We know that extreme temperatures can be a serious health threat to all of our residents, but seniors must be especially careful,” said Angel Dennison, director of the Council on Aging.

For those without air conditioning, the Council participates in a fan donation program that is funded through a statewide program sponsored by utility companies.

Subject: More education, better job skills

I am behind the curve on some Chatlists, so I am responding to Saturday’s posting re. the challenges of procuring more education and job skills when consumed by work and raising children. It is indeed a catch 22. FORTUNATELY, there are many alternatives to a traditional campus education. Wake Tech offers a number of on-line classes, as well as UNC. OR, you can enroll in distance education programs that do not necessarily have courses on-line, (especially if you are Internet challenged), but are structured to be completed “off campus”. There are entire degree programs available on-line and or by distance education, and they are fully accredited. One of my degrees is from a distance education program, and I loved the experience!

traffic lightAfter narrowly escaping an accident at Cole Park yesterday (my fault!) I think I know why so many people are making wrong turns. Many of us are distracted to some extent while driving - listening to music, thinking about the day. When you are in a turn lane at Cole Park, you nearly always get a turn arrow before the light turns green for everyone else. So if you’re not concentrating, like I wasn’t yesterday when Rich and I were animatedly discussing politics, you might automatically turn when the light turns green and then get a nasty surprise when you see that people coming the other direction are headed right towards you.
