Simple solution to sign ordinance problems

I admire all those who participate in our elective processes, whether by running for office or assisting with campaigns. I am sure that those who participate by putting out signs supporting their candidates are also the very ones who respect the law.

A simple solution to Mr. Wyllie’s dilemma is for the campaign manager to include a written statement with the signs stating the local regulation (for local candidates) or to include a reminder for volunteers to check with local authorities concerning sign regulations (for candidates at the state or national level).

While I am sure that most Chatham people are as annoyed as I am with
calls made with automatic dialers, bombardments with TV ads and signs
on the corners, we must still be thankful that we still have our
political process in tact in Chatham County, whereas several locations
in the country in the last two presidential elections obviously did not.

Chatham County Sign Ordinance

Subject: Chatham County Sign Ordinance

Since this has been discussed several times, I’m just forwarding this information -

Chatham County has a sign ordinance that has been in place since the 1980s. It is a violation of the ordinance to erect any sign in or over the public right-of-way. The ordinance can be found on the county web-site in the ordinance section.

The ordinance is Section 13, sub-section 13.4 item # 8 of the prohibited sign ordinance. It also a violation of NCDOT Regulation #19A NCAC 2E.0415 ” Signs on Highway Right-of-Way”.
