Subject: Response to Ms. Goldston NHS vs JMHS

In response to Ms. Goldston’s posting about her child not being allowed to go to NHS:

I deeply empathize with your situation and understand your child’s devastation with being separated from his peer group. I also understand what it is like to live in Siler City, work in Pittsboro, and have one child in school in Siler City and another in Pittsboro. I understand your plight but want to reassure you, all will be well.

fireants.jpgThe ant behavior you described, “building hills and holes in a straight line
across my gravel driveway. The line stopped right at the edge of both sides
of the driveway” is consistent with moving fire ants. There may also be
other ants that exhibit similar behavior.

No room at Northwood

girl on mapCurrent situation given, all kids need to attend their assigned schools. And for these inflated prices, what do you get? Overcrowded schools, no parks, limited recreation, no garbage pick up, no water or sewer service, commutes behind construction equipment and lovely strip malls like Chatham Downs and Chatham Crossing.

For the future? If you live in Siler, you go to school in Siler. I think that’s pretty simple. Or you run the risk of having your child jerked around. For the county? Bring on the LTT or higher taxes, it’s one or the other. Redistrict these schools today.

Pittsboro Place propaganda

From: Ed Williams
Subject: Pittsboro Place

Jim Nitsch says he didn’t write the “info” (propaganda) about Pittsboro Place which he posted. I understand organizations are not allowed to post their leaflets on the Chatlist, so accommodating people like Jim do it for them. This one was written by Chatham Coalition and then parroted by their comrades, Chatham Citizens for Effective Communities

What happened to no child left behind

From: Dan Cahoon
Subject: What happened to no child left behind

It is still there and wreaking untold damage upon our local school system. Chatham county is still under improvement according to the details of NCLB. Funds are being shifted and manipulated by bad legislation pushed through by a negligent and corrupt congress.

You can request a waiver for your son to attend his preferred school. It sounds logical for you to have your son at a convenient location. Unfortunately, our school system is bound by residency policies that determine your child’s school. Space is limited in some schools and the administration is just trying to make room for those who live in the school district.

I feel bad for this young man

football helmetThat is a shame. I feel bad for this young man. I hope he seeks an education somewhere. Although his dreams of playing football on a team of his close peers seems to have evaporated.

I know that I was asked to respond directly to the family but I don’t know that I have anything to offer besides sympathy. I haven’t offered sympathy in so long I don’t know if I can do it anymore.

You live in Siler City

Subject: Re: school bus blues

The short answer as to why your child was assigned to JM is simple. You live in Siler City. Part of the reason Northwood is overcrowded comes down to districting. I don’t claim to be an expert but I believe one of the ‘solutions’ to the overcrowding problems in our schools that has been bandied about does have to do with redistricting and stricter adherence to the districts that exist.

Posting for lost animals

From: Phyllis Thomas
Subject: Posting for Lost Animals

I sincerely hope that anyone who has a pet lost will not bediscouraged from posting on the Chatlist for help in locating your animal.

The negative comments about losing pets may keep some pet owners from posting, and keep them from getting help that they would otherwise receive by posting here.

Most of the people that take time to post here are extremely helpful and caring.

If one of my pets was missing, this is the first place I’d go asking for assistance in spotting it.
